Welcome

Excalibur is a non-traditional school that assists families who, because of need or desire, have chosen to educate their children outside of a “brick and mortar” school. This non-traditional approach is termed “homeschooling” and implies that students will be educated at home.

Making Education History: Beyond the Status Quo PDF Print E-mail

Gray, TN, May 14, 2012, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, LLC — With more than 2 million K–12 students in the U.S. currently being educated at home, the popularity of homeschooling continues to rise. Since 1999, the number of homeschooled students has increased by a staggering 75%, mostly in response to increasing dissatisfaction and frustration with the public school system.

Statistics from the U.S. Department of Education recently documented less than a 1% increase in enrollment of K–12 public school students nationwide, but the homeschool population increased by a whopping 7%. Almost 4% (and growing) of our nation’s school-age children are being educated at home.

Research has proven that parents are more than capable of successfully educating their children at home. Surveys of homeschoolers’ academic successes consistently reveal that they score, on average, at the 65th to 89th percentile on standardized academic achievement tests, compared to a national school average at the 50th percentile. Interestingly, according to a recent, nationwide survey of homeschoolers commissioned by the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), achievement gaps that are “well-documented in public school between boys and girls, parents with lower incomes, and parents with lower levels of education are not found among homeschoolers.”

FINAL CALL! High School Meeting On May 1st! PDF Print E-mail

Tuesday May 1st: Kingdom Life Fellowship 7-8:30 7252 Governor's West Huntsville, AL 35806 close to Bridge Street and Space and Rocket Center.

For parents of students approaching or in high school. Really never too young to start thinking about it.

If you want to be assured of a workbook, please let me know by Monday midnight that you are coming. You can still come, but please do not take a book reserved for someone else if you do. Preparing these books is a time and money investment on our pats.

I want to especially invite dads to come to this meeting if at all possible. Fathers are ultimately the ones responsible for the education of their children. This is an opportunity to obtain information vital to making decisions and choices through the high school years. Frankly, I don’t know how anyone can know how to home school through high school without learning this information from somewhere. I think we are a fairly reliable source for information, even though you must still do the work of educating and guiding your family.

The High School Meeting this spring will include the following:

1. Members of the Freedom Cowboy staff will give a short presentation on their football program.

2. Mynette Eledui will present info on highs school classes, soccer, and yearbooks.

3. The usual overall view of Homeschooling High School will be presented: meeting requirements, finding the bent of your students, options for non-college, testing, scholarships, life purposes, etc.

4. Insights on keeping the heart of your children through trying times.

Since this is a parents meeting, few students come although they are welcome and seem to enjoy learning some of their options. Please bring them if you like.

Please send me a return email if you will be attending. You may also invite other friends not in Excalibur or ones who might be interested in homeschooling. No charge if they are not homeschooling and don’t take a book. $10 for homeschoolers from other coverings.
